People Skills come in two pieces.
First, you need to learn and understand the reasons behind “WHY” people do the things they do.
In other words, you need to become aware of what motivate people’s behaviour.
Second, you need to learn how to “Influence” that motivation. This means that you need to stop trying to tell people what to do and how to do it. Instead, you need to learn how to ask people to evaluate for themselves
(their own thinking and actions) and if they are getting the results they want.
It is this “Self-Assessment” that allows a person to choose more effective behaviours.
Therefore, People Skills is the integration of the “understanding of people’s motivation”
and “the ability to influence” people’s thinking and actions.
